A 16th-century lakeside village pinned between mountain and water.
Three and a half hours from Vienna, Hallstatt is the most-photographed village in Austria — for good reason. Two days is plenty: arrive Friday, sleep above the lake, take the salt-mine funicular Saturday, hike a stretch of the Echerntal on Sunday.
